Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how SimpleBulb Inc., d.b.a. Restful ("Restful," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares personal information across three parts of our business: the Restful mobile app and Restful Cloud (our backend service for accounts and connected lamps), our websites and online store, and our customer support and marketing communications. Our websites include restfullighting.com, liverestful.com, simplebulb.com, and bedtimebulb.com (together, the "Site"). All of the above are operated by SimpleBulb Inc., d.b.a. Restful.
This policy is organized into the three areas above, followed by sections that apply across all of them: retention, account deletion, your choices and rights, international transfers, security, and children's privacy.
The Restful Mobile App and Restful Cloud
This section covers the Restful mobile app and Restful Cloud, the backend service that powers accounts, lamp pairing, and remote control. It does not cover our website or online store — see "Restful Websites and Online Store" below for that.
Information We Collect
When you create a Restful account and use the app, the app and Restful Cloud collect:
- your name and email address;
- account identifiers from Auth0, Apple, or Google, depending on how you sign in;
- your Restful account ID;
- lamp identifiers, serial numbers, names, and ownership records;
- lamp settings, schedules, time zone, status, and command history;
- app version, platform, and basic operational metadata; and
- if you opt in, crash and reliability diagnostics (see "Diagnostics and Crash Reporting" below).
If you contact support through the app, we also collect the messages, screenshots, and diagnostic reports you choose to submit.
Your Restful account ID, lamp ownership records, and lamp activity are tied to your identity through your account — we don't treat this information as anonymous.
Information We Do Not Collect or Transmit
- We do not send your Wi-Fi password to Restful Cloud.
- We do not include Wi-Fi passwords in logs or analytics.
- The app does not collect advertising identifiers.
- The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Our diagnostics service does not receive your account ID, lamp identifiers, or network identifiers.
How We Use This Information
We use app and Restful Cloud information to:
- create and authenticate your account;
- associate lamps with their owners;
- operate and control your lamps remotely;
- save your schedules and preferences;
- provide firmware updates and help recover a lamp that's lost its settings;
- respond to support requests;
- prevent abuse and secure accounts; and
- diagnose crashes and reliability problems, only for users who opt in.
We do not use app or connected-lamp information for behavioral advertising.
Service Providers
- Auth0 authenticates your account.
- Apple or Google receive an account identifier when you choose to sign in with their login option.
- Restful Cloud infrastructure hosts your account and lamp-control data.
- Sentry receives crash and reliability diagnostics, only if you've opted in.
- Chatwoot, our customer-support ticketing tool, receives your support messages and attachments.
Purchases are handled separately through Shopify and our payment providers, described in "Restful Websites and Online Store" below — purchase information is not combined with your app account data beyond what's needed to confirm a warranty or support request.
Diagnostics and Crash Reporting
Crash and reliability diagnostics are off by default. If you opt in from the app, we transmit crash logs and basic app/device metadata relevant to diagnosing the crash to Sentry. This information is filtered before it's sent so that it does not include your account ID, lamp identifiers, or network identifiers.
You can withdraw consent at any time from Profile in the app. Withdrawing stops future diagnostic collection; it does not delete diagnostic data already submitted, which is retained per Sentry's retention period as described in "Data Retention" below.
Data Storage and Security
- Account tokens are kept in your device's secure credential storage (such as the OS Keychain or Keystore).
- If you use recovery Wi-Fi credentials, they may be stored in your device's hardware-backed keystore.
- Communication between the app and Restful Cloud is encrypted over HTTPS.
- During lamp setup, your Wi-Fi credentials are sent directly to the lamp over your local network — not through Restful Cloud.
No security system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Restful Websites and Online Store
This section covers the Site — our websites and online store, hosted on Shopify. It does not cover the Restful mobile app or Restful Cloud; see the section above for that.
Information We Collect
Device Information. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and cookies installed on your device, as well as which pages or products you view and how you interact with the Site. We collect this using cookies, log files, and web beacons/tags/pixels. For more on cookies and how to disable them, visit www.allaboutcookies.org.
Order Information. When you make or attempt to make a purchase, we collect your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information, email address, and phone number.
How We Use This Information
We use Order Information to fulfill orders, process payments, arrange shipping, provide invoices/confirmations, communicate with you, screen for fraud, and (where consistent with your preferences) share product or service information with you.
We use Device Information to screen for fraud, improve and optimize the Site, generate usage analytics, and assess marketing/advertising performance, including for advertising and retargeting.
Cookies and Behavioral Advertising
We use Device Information to provide targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may interest you. This applies to the Site only — see "The Restful Mobile App and Restful Cloud" above for why we don't do this with app or lamp data. Learn more at the Network Advertising Initiative. You can opt out of targeted advertising via:
Service Providers
- Shopify powers our website and online store (see Shopify's Privacy Policy) and processes payments through its payment providers.
- Google Analytics helps us understand Site usage (see Google's Privacy & Terms; opt out via Google Analytics Opt-out).
- Amazon, for purchases made on Amazon marketplaces (see Amazon's US Privacy Notice or UK Privacy Notice).
- Business and advertising partners, where you've consented or where permitted by law, subject to the choices described in "Your Choices and Rights" below.
- Professional advisers, insurers, and government authorities, when necessary to protect our rights, comply with law, or respond to valid legal process.
- A buyer or successor, in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business.
We require service providers to use personal information only for the services they provide us, consistent with applicable law.
Customer Support and Marketing
Communications Information. If you contact us, including by SMS/text message, we collect the content of that communication and your contact details. We use Chatwoot to manage support conversations (see "The Restful Mobile App and Restful Cloud" above for what it receives from in-app support).
SMS Messaging
If you provide your mobile number to Restful, expressly agree to receive text messages, or initiate a text conversation with us, we may send text messages to provide customer support, troubleshoot products or services, respond to your requests, and follow up on open support matters. We do not use this customer-support SMS program to send marketing or promotional messages.
Message frequency varies based on your support needs. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving text messages, or HELP for assistance.
Mobile phone numbers, text messaging originator opt-in data, and consent will not be shared, sold, rented, or otherwise provided to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
Marketing Communications
If you sign up for our email marketing, Klaviyo sends those communications on our behalf (see Klaviyo's Privacy Policy). If you sign up for SMS support, Twilio delivers those messages (see Twilio's Privacy Policy). You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in any marketing email we send.
Data Retention
How long we keep information depends on what it is and why we collected it:
- Account data is retained while your account is active.
- Lamp configuration and ownership records are retained for as long as needed to provide the service.
- Support communications are retained for 30 days after your request is resolved.
- Diagnostic records follow Sentry's configured retention period, after which they are automatically deleted from Sentry's systems.
- Purchase and tax records may be retained for as long as required by applicable tax, accounting, or consumer-protection law.
- When you delete your account, we retain a minimal record noting that the account existed and was deleted, along with anything we're legally required to keep (such as tax or fraud-prevention records). This record does not include your lamp data, schedules, or diagnostic history.
Account Deletion
You can delete your Restful account from Profile → Delete Account in the app. When you do:
- your account is permanently deleted, not deactivated;
- your lamps are released from the account so they can be paired with a new one;
- your personal information is deleted or de-identified;
- credentials and lamp bindings stored locally on your device are cleared;
- data we're legally required to retain — for tax, fraud-prevention, or security purposes — may be kept as described in "Data Retention" above; and
- if you signed in with Apple, we revoke that Sign in with Apple authorization.
Account deletion is typically completed within 10 days. We'll send a confirmation once it's done.
Your Choices and Rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- access or correct your personal information;
- delete your account, as described above;
- withdraw diagnostic consent from Profile in the app;
- request a copy of your personal information; and
- object to or ask us to restrict certain processing, where applicable.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@restfullighting.com. We'll acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond substantively within 45 calendar days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, using measures proportionate to the sensitivity of the data.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland
We process your information under the following lawful bases: contract (to fulfill an order or provide a service you've requested), legitimate interests (fraud prevention, Site optimization, and analytics, balanced against your rights), consent (marketing communications, non-essential cookies, and app diagnostics, where required), and legal obligation (where processing is required by law).
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. Restful has not appointed an EU representative or Data Protection Officer.
If you are a California resident (CCPA / CPRA)
In the past 12 months, on the Site we have collected identifiers (name, email, phone, IP address), commercial information (order history), and internet/device activity (browsing behavior, device identifiers). In the app, we have collected the account and lamp information described in "The Restful Mobile App and Restful Cloud" above.
We share Site identifiers and internet/device activity with advertising partners such as Meta and Google through advertising pixels for targeted advertising. Under the CCPA/CPRA, this counts as sharing personal information, even though we do not sell personal information for money. We do not share app or lamp data this way.
In addition to the rights listed above, you have the right to opt out of the sharing of Site personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — use the cookie preference controls described in "Cookies and Behavioral Advertising" above — and the right to limit use of sensitive personal information to specific purposes, and not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. You may authorize another person to submit a request on your behalf where law permits; we may require proof of authorization and identity verification.
International Data Transfers
Restful is headquartered in the United States, with an office in the United Kingdom. Restful Cloud runs infrastructure in the United States and in the European Union, and our service providers may process information in other countries as well, including the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent mechanisms with our service providers.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including the app-specific measures described in "Data Storage and Security" above. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Restful's products and services are directed to general audiences and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, whether through the Site or the app. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we'll take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
